Yo Momma show is kind of like a game show that currently airs on MTV. The series is hosted by That 70's Show's Wilmer Valderrama, Sam Sarpong, Jason Everhart (J-Boogie from TEENick), and Los Angeles radio DJ Big Boy. Locals compete to win real cash prizes for showing off their best insults.
The show is based on "the dozens", an African-American oral tradition in which two acquaintances go head to head in a contest of "trash-talk". They take turns insulting their opponents mother until one of them has no comeback.
In each episode of Yo Momma, large city locals compete to win "cash money" by winning several rounds of "trash-talking." One of Valderrama's associates, Sam or Jason, go to a neighborhood where a few contestants take each other on in a insults competition. From there, two are selected and compete against each other. Each winner advances to a final "battle."
After winning the round, each contestant visits the other contestant's house with Valderrama in order to learn embarrassing info about them to use against his or her opponent in the final round.
The final "battle" includes several rounds: general jokes about the opponent's momma, jokes directed at the opponent's home, living situation or personal style, and a final "knock-out" joke. Valderrama, then consults with Sam and Jason, selects a winner, who receives $1,000 in "cash money" as Valderrama calls it, and moves on to the "Best of the Week" round.
The winners come back for a "Best Of The Week" show. In the end, the winner gets another $1000 and also wins a game console, tickets to a sporting event or entertainment event, and dinner at either of two restaurants owned by Valderrama — Geisha House and Dolce.
Weekly winners then come back for a "Best Of The City" show. After four weeks of competition, the weekly winners are invited back again to determine an ultimate winner from the city, who would receive an additional $5,000.
Season 1 of the Yo Momma series was taped in Los Angeles, and aired in spring 2006. Season 2 will take place in New York City, and will premiere in fall 2006. Infact MTV currently has a casting call for Trash-Talkers....
